CONFERENCES

2007 Mid-Continent Regional Conference

The KU Regional Conference was a great time for all who attended. We left Columbia on the afternoon of April 25 th and the competition began on the morning of the 26 th. The Steel Bridge competition all day and the Concrete Canoe presented their paper.

The Steel Bridge Team finished 3 rd in all of the categories, and 3 rd overall. These great results are sending the bridge to Nationals at California State University of Northridge (close to LA!!!). National competition is May 25 th-26 th.

Friday was the Concrete Canoe swamp test, but the canoes weren’t the only ones getting soaked! The rain didn’t let up during the test and everyone found styrofoam to shelter themselves from the rain. Our canoe passed the test and so it was on to the races on Saturday for our team!

On Saturday we headed out to a park outside of Lawrence for the canoe races. Everyone cheered on their teams in the great weather while enjoying a BBQ sponsored by GBA. Our canoe finished 3 rd overall.

The conference was a great success for MIZZOU!!!

2006 Mid-Continent Regional Conference

Mizzou was the host of the 2006 Mid-Continent Regional Conference. The events were held on April 27 th through the 29 th at sites on campus and at Columbia’s Twin Lakes Recreation Area. There were approximately 350 students from 14 Midwestern universities and colleges. MU Civil Engineering was represented in the steel bridge, concrete canoe competitions, and geo-challenge.

Alongside the main competitions, Mizzou held a “mystery event”. Bottle rockets were constructed from 2-liter soda bottles, duct tape, poster and form board. Add some water pressure and they were off! Entries were judged on their airtime. A Mizzou rocket won by staying aloft for 5.94 minutes and flying from Carnahan Quad to past the Renolds Alumni Center.

Another event was a KNEX building contest. Points were scored for every inch that the tower stood over three feet and for each pound that it held. Mizzou’s KNEX tower stood 42” and supported 59 pounds before breaking. Our tower earned over twice the number of points as the other two towers entered, a Mizzou victory!
