Ronald McDonald House Shed Project

December 2007

With over 250 hours of work and 12 or so dedicated workers, the Mizzou Student Chapter built a new shed for the Ronald McDonald House on campus. Building from the ground up, our students designed and fabricated the 8’ x 16’ shed that earned the more deserving name of a “barn” because of its size. You can see for yourself why the name fits, and also all the work our students put into the barn.

The project for the Ronald McDonald House was first going to be laying a new foundation for the old shed they had in their backyard. We had bigger plans in mind this semester and now we are proud to present them with a new and much better shed for all of their needs.

We were not the only ones who had the heart to help out the Ronald McDonald House. We were able to get our project partially funded through donation of supplies and money.

Here’s a list of our sponsors who made this possible:

LaCrosse Lumber Co.
Mid-City Lumber Co.
Bartlett & West Engineers
Trabue, Hansen & Hinshaw
Harvey Truck Line
St. Louis Section ASCE
Lowe’s
Professional Contractors & Engineers

Thank you!!!

Now completed, our chapter helped the local St. Francis House build an addition onto the existing building. Members spent more than 400 hours of labor to help with the project.

Currently, the club is working on the design of a handicap ramp for a Columbia man to have better access getting in and out of his house. Once this work is done, we will be also building the ramp for him. View AutoCad(c) drawing.

We continue to look for service projects and any little way to brighten someone’s day or situation. All of the KNEX used at our 2006 Regional Conference were donated to kids.

The game plan for our next service project is to go to the Ronald McDonald House on campus and help them with a new foundation for a shed and a concrete slab for their recycling. The project was originally going to start in April, but we had bad weather and busy end-of-school schedules. We are going to get back there in the fall and get the job done. We will keep you posted. To our ASCE members, come to meetings to see how you can help!
